Mackinlays Rare Old Malt Whisky Highlands
ItemNo:1SMACNVWH3R
Mackinlay's Rare Old Highland Malt is a meticulous re-creation. The original was a whisky much enjoyed throughout the late 19th century, and had been personally selected by Ernest Shackleton to help sustain his British Antarctic Expedition in 1907. In 2007, while carrying out conservation work on the Shackleton's expedition hut, members of the New Zealand Antarctic Heritage Trust discovered crates of the original. Analysis of the malt revealed a specific taste profile, and efforts to re-create the whisky begun. Malts from Glen Mhor and Dalmore distilleries were combined with others from Speyside and beyond. For continuity (the strength of the whisky at 47.3% alc/vol), Orkney peat was used in the malting and the “new make” spirit was matured in American white oak sherry casks. The result is a malt light honey in color, with an aroma that is soft, elegant and refined, and a taste that is both harmonious and exhilarating. It’s an enduring spirit of another time.
