2008 Catena 'Nicolas Catena' Zapata
Much like Robert Mondavi did in the Napa Valley, Nicolas Catena is credited with putting Mendoza on the map as a world-class wine producing region. He also saved the 109-year old Familia Catena, which was struggling in the country's shattered economy. The family's come a long way from those days, and the Nicolas Catena Zapata is a tribute to the economist-turned-winemaker's pioneering efforts. The 'Zapata' for Catena is one such beneficiary, it being a row-by-row selection of three estate vineyards. Carefully picked and micro-vinified in tiny batches, then raised in 100% French oak barriques, it is truly a 'reserve' level wine that represents the best of Argentina.
