2009 Gilles Robin Hermitage
We challenge anyone who doesn't like Syrah with a bottle of this. Wine Spectator writes "rich, with a velvety-textured core of plum, fig and boysenberry fruit wrapped in sweet spice, melted licorice and fruitcake." Pure sex appeal in the glass…
For each grape there is a classic terroir, and for Syrah it is the northern Rhône with its mistral winds cooling the continental summer heat. Nobody knows this better than the house of Gilles Robin. What began in 1920 as the personal winemaking project of Louis Pasquion (Gilles' great grandfather) has become a family tradition in the study of revealing the uniqueness of each parcel of their Syrah plantings. To this long history of varietal-focused growing and winemaking, Gilles' has brought modern viticulture techniques. And while steadfastly continuing the terroir centric way of growing, Gilles is both student and master of Syrah's varietal complexity. Robin aptly says "Syrah grapes have an extraordinary capacity of adaptation and thus are able to express themselves in different ways. To each terroir a revelation." With so many different styles and expressions there is something for every palate in the portfolio.
