Gin
The name is derived from its main flavoring ingredient, juniper berries. Perhaps derived from French genièvre or Dutch genever – either way we’re all for it. Gin starts as a clear neutral spirit to which a distiller will add concentrated distillate of botanicals. While each distiller has their own recipe, it’s typical to find botanicals such as juniper, coriander, orris root, angelica, orange or lemon somewhere in the mix.
During the Black Death, gin was thought a suitable remedy… while we now know it just isn’t so. Why not raise a glass to your health?
