Rum
The origins of the name are a bit hazy, but our favorite is this; in the West Indies during the 17th century the revelries of drunken fools were described with the word, “rumbullion” and well, the name just stuck. Rum wouldn’t exist as we know it without Christopher Columbus, who is credited with bringing sugar cane to the Caribbean Islands in the 1490s. The tropical climate supported the growth of the cash crop (which has a propensity to begin fermenting on its own) and soon became the staple ingredient of rum. The distilled spirit is made from cane juice, sap or molasses, and ranges in style based on methods of fermentation and aging.
