2001 Spring Mountain Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Spring Mountain

(0) No Reviews yet

This absolutely ravishing 2001 features dusty cassis liqueur, sweet fruit, concentrated black cherry pulp, old leather and sweet Virginia tobacco, with top notes of cocoa powder and carob. It is the essence of perfectly aged Spring Mountain Cabernet. With 15 years under its belt, it is showing brilliantly right now and garnered a rare three stars in our tasting book.

Also worth noting: on the crowdsourced (and tough crowd) of cellartracker.com, this wine scored an average of 92+ points over 88 reviews posted as of 10/2016.

There are few places in Napa Valley that are as distinctive and dramatic as Spring Mountain Vineyard. With approximately 850 acres on the property, and 226 planted to vines, this hillside nirvana epitomizes the uniqueness of this esteemed appellation. Over the years, they've married the wilderness of the area with 135 separate blocks of vineyards, each dedicated to highlighting a different expression of this original mountain winery. Having been the first to plant Cabernet Sauvignon on Spring Mountain in 1874, their hallowed stone walls have always been a home for pioneering vision. With a bird's-eye view of St. Helena, this team continues to spread their wings, producing wines that are true illustrations of time and place. Accessible in their youth while also having the ability to age for decades, these wines push the boundaries of what's possible, and will make a believer out of anyone who's willing to take a taste.
