Champagne Pommery is the Maison that introduced Brut Champagne to the world in 1874. Pommery produces cuvées from meticulous vineyard selection with a unique history of balancing tradition and modernity. Clément Pierlot, only the 10th Chef des Caves since 1836, ensures the consistency of the blends. Located in Reims, the extraordinary Chateau is built on 11 miles of chalk cellars. Pommery Grand Cru Royal is a cuvee made with some of the best grapes of a given vintage, sourced from Grands Crus only. 2008 was a great vintage with both stellar climate conditions and healthy grapes. An exceptional harvest highlighted in this single-vintage champagne.
An excellent introduction to the brilliance of the 2008 vintage in Champagne, this has a cornucopia of citrus, toast and brioche notes, plus some red-fruit character. Powerful and structured, but very focused with impressive chalky minerality, this is just reaching ideal drinking form. Very long, tantalizing finish, where the high natural acidity is well integrated.
Almond paste and pastry nose. The palate is deft of construction and memorable in its focus with notes of oranges, mace, and yellow fruits. Nutty finish.
A fine, mature Champagne, this is beautifully textured. Fruit is still there, a fine underlay of bright acidity, surmounted by toastiness and minerality. Drink this impressive wine now.
