2009 Crowley 'Estate Vineyard' Syrah Spring Mountain

The high elevation ridge in the Mayacamas Mountains that is home to Crowley Vineyard was first planted to vines in the 1880s, making it one of the most historic vineyard sites in all of Napa. Around the beginning of this century, Joan Crowley bought the property with the dream of replanting the vineyard. After removing the derelict, overgrown stumps of the ancient vines, she applied biodynamic preparations to the soil before even planting the first cutting. This site has been lovingly farmed using organic and biodynamic principles for over 20 years. The vines grow in red volcanic soils at 2,000 feet elevation surrounded by pine and manzanita forest. This incredible vineyard truly encapsulates all that is special about Spring Mountain's magical terroir.

Now 15 years old - this is a wine that is still bursting with energy. Mature red and black fruit notes, finely polished tannins, fully integrated oak - it's still got acidity and structure - more like a 5 year old wine rather than 15.
