Perched at 1,500 feet on Napa's Mount Veeder, Godspeed is a winery known for making wines of incredible muscularity and longevity. The vineyard project was started by the Larry Stricker family in the mid 1980s, and initially sold grapes to esteemed wineries including Robert Craig, William Hill, Newton, and Monticello. As of the 1990 vintage, they've been making limited amounts of their own small-lot wines from the vineyard. Larry's attention to detail was honed over years of designing and building exclusive resort properties all over the world, and serves him well as an artisanal farmer. Keeping the natural balance of the land, they farm without pesticides, herbicides, or other chemicals, and tend the vineyards by hand. At this elevation, berries tend to be smaller, possessing more concentrated flavors and a harmonizing natural acidity. In total, the folks at Godspeed make three wines to express the unique microclimates found in their unique Mount Veeder vineyards; Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Trinity, a striking blend that often contains Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah. This is what all bold mountain fruit strives to be, with textural elements ensuring a nice long life, be it in the glass or in the cellar.
