Back in August 2016, we were lucky enough to taste the 2009 and 2011 Promontory wines with Will Harlan at the new Promontory winery. Both wines were a revelation. The 2011 is a little fresher and more vibrant than the 2009, with notes of cherry liqueur, minerals, pen ink, and coffee. Parker described a big, sweet nose of licorice, scorched earth, espresso bean, camphor and sweet blackcurrants and blackberries. A Graves-like volcanic character is also present.
