2012 Pacific Wine Group Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley
The 2012 Levy & McClellan is a giant of a Cabernet. Our notes say Extremely expressive and classy. Very structured. Chocolaty. Scorched earth. Dusty goût de terroir." Parker describes "A broodingly backward, mountain-styled Cabernet Sauvignon, its level of concentration and formidable mass is admirable. It boasts an inky/purple color along with notes of crème de cassis, blackberries, subtle barbecue smoke and graphite. Full-bodied with sweet tannin and the vintage hallmarks of lusciousness, extravagant richness and depth without being heavy or tiring, this fabulous effort is one of the more drinkable wines from Levy & McClellan to date. It should last for 25-30 years." "
Between the two of them, husband and wife Bob Levy and Martha McClellan have some of the most impressive resumes and track records in the entire Napa Valley. Bob is of course the Director of Winemaking at Harlan Estate, Bond, and Promontory, and cut his teeth with long stints at Rombauer and Merryvale. Martha trained at the esteemed Geisenheim University in Germany, and also honed her craft at Harlan Estate, Sloan, and Vineyard 7 & 8, and Checkerboard.
Bob and Martha's own project, Levy & McClellan, north of Diamond Mountain on the way to Knights Valley, is incredibly rare and collectible. They were kind enough to share with us a nice allocation of their two reds from their home vineyard, whose total production is less than 600 cases.
