2013 Cardinale Proprietary Red Napa Valley
Chris Carpenter is something of a Napa Valley Superman. The more we read about him, the more we realize how little we actually accomplish each day by comparison. The guy makes wine at five wineries: Lokoya, Cardinale, La Jota, Mt. Brave and Hickinbotham, the last of which is 8,000 miles away from Napa, in McLaren Vale, South Australia.
Cardinale's Cabernet is unique in the valley because it is blended almost entirely from fruit from each mountain appellation: Mt. Veeder, Spring Mountain, Howell Mountain, and Diamond Mountain. With these materials, Chris built this wine to age for up to 30 or more years.
"A brilliant wine from winemaker Chris Carpenter, this blend of 89% Cabernet Sauvignon and 11% Merlot is fabulous. The 2013 Cardinale Proprietary Red Wine is dense purple-colored, a big, sweet kiss of crème de cassis as well as licorice, blackberry and espresso are all present in this full-bodied, rather sublime and intense Cabernet Sauvignon that should drink well for 25 or more years." - The Wine Advocate
