2013 Grape Tamer Red Blend Central Coast
Grape Tamer is a joint project between Napa wine impresario Patrick McNeil and Paso Robles winemaker McPrice Mac" Myers, a son of a prison guard who overcame a tough upbringing in East LA to become one of Paso Robles' most accomplished winemakers.
This wine is primarily Grenache, from Alta Mesa Vineyard in the Santa Barbara Highlands at an elevation of 3500 feet above sea level. The soils are predominantly decomposed granite, Gneiss, and basalt.
Petite Sirah, from the Paso Ono Vineyard in the El Pomar District of Paso Robles makes up 36% of this blend. The warmer growing days of this district are tempered by the pronounced cooling influence of the Templeton Gap.
Zinfandel from the Gravity Hills Vineyard, located in the Willow Creek District of Paso Robles, makes up 12% of the blend. These west-side rolling hills are home to notable vineyards like James Berry, Denner Vineyard, Linne Calodo, and Ueberroth Vineyard.
This is a massive, incredibly fruity red wine that is hard not to like, even among the snootiest wine snoots. "
