Herb Lamb Vineyard is a bit of a legend of Howell Mountain, responsible for so many great wines from the likes of Colgin, Karl Lawrence, and Tor Kenward. In 1988, Herb and Jennifer Lamb arrived at their seven-acre slice of land in the foothills of Howell Mountain in St. Helena with big dreams. This rocky hillside, ranging from 600 to 800 feet in elevation, was cleared and wide terraces were graded in preparation for planting. The Lambs began making their own wine in 1997 when they produced their first 50 cases of HL Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon. Michael Trujillo makes the wines here. We loved their 2013 Cabernet for its earthy, very rooty and savory flavors, like curry and sandalwood spice. Black cherry jam carries the finish!
