2013 Kapcsándy Family Winery 'Grand Vin' State LaneCabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley Yountville
Comprised of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12% Merlot, Grand Vin represents the pinnacle of Lou and Louis' production at their Yountville estate, made with the help of the late Denis Malbec of Château Latour. Lou and Louis poured this majestic red for us and the notes bloomed from the glass: ripe black figs, anise, roasted earth, and fruitcake, all on an extremely long and satisfying frame.
The normally reserved Antonio Galloni raved, The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Grand Vin opens with the most captivating, exquisite aromatics imaginable. A wine of arresting allure and total sensuality, the 2013 simply has it all. Today, the 2013 is a mere infant, but its personality, pedigree and overall class simply can't be denied. An exotic mélange of lavender, violet, sage, mint and wild flowers are laced into the finish. "
Founded by Lou Kapcsándy on the site of the State Lane property (the soul of Beringer’s Private Reserve Cabernet for more than 20 years), the vineyard was replanted under the guidance of famed consultant Helen Turley. The winery was then designed as a 100% functionally-driven facility… it is effectively a maternity ward for grapes and may be cleaner than hospital standards. Raised in the barrel by Denis Malbec (who was literally born at Château Latour), this is a project that bears the fingerprints of serious players. Lou’s Old World perspective as a native of Hungary and decades-long importer of Bordeaux is reflected in his wine. Working alongside his wife Bobbie and son Louis Jr., the goal is to deliver brilliant California fruit and flavor with guts, backbone and stuffing, the sort of red that can sit among the legendary first growths and convince experienced palates that it is one of them.
We can guarantee that getting on the inside track now with this thrilling new project will put you in prime position down the road, because it’s going to be scarce… the clock is ticking.
