2013 Mount Eden 'Estate' Cabernet Sauvignon Santa Cruz Mountains

$69.95
WA96WE95

Made from 32 year old Cabernet vines descended from Rixford’s mythical “La Questa” plantings, which themselves came from Château Margaux, this is a graceful but powerful mountain Cabernet that will show its best with at least 10 years in the cellar. In fact, winemaker Jeffrey Patterson said “I cannot say if I have made a more compelling vin de garde (wine for keeping) in the last thirty years. The Wine Advocate loves how it is “unfurling in the glass with aromas of cassis, tobacco, bay laurel, dark chocolate and rich soil. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, multidimensional and concentrated, with wonderful savory depth, fine grained but firm tannins and a long, taut and tangy finish... expect it to begin to come into its own around its tenth birthday.” Grab a case of this one, and please note: it’s closer in style to a left-bank Bordeaux than it is to a Napa Valley Cabernet.

Wine Advocate

The 2013 Cabernet Sauvignon Estate is developing beautifully, unfurling in the glass with aromas of cassis, tobacco, bay laurel, dark chocolate and rich soil. On the palate, it's medium to full-bodied, multidimensional and concentrated, with wonderful savory depth, fine grained but firm tannins and a long, taut and tangy finish. While this is firmly shut down today, its potential for the future is fully evident: expect it to begin to come into its own around its tenth birthday.

Wine Enthusiast

A true classic, bursting with red and black fruit, vinesmoke and pencil shavings, and structured by fine tannin and bracing Santa Cruz acidity. Consistently one of the most ageworthy Cabernets in California, gaining in volume and expansiveness with time in the cellar, always vibrant and intense.
