For a vineyard that looks down over Dalla Valle and Screaming Eagle, this is an exceedingly fair price for this posh neighborhood. Galloni called it "A dark, sumptuous beauty, [it] captures the pedigree of the year as well as the personality of this site on the eastern hills of Oakville. Dark cherry, mocha, spice, licorice and savory herbs blossom in this beautifully textured, super-expressive Cabernet Sauvignon." – Vinous Put this one away for 5-15 years. 380 cases produced.
Oakville Ranch is in a very special corner of the Napa Valley. In a sense it is the best winery in Oakville that you've never heard of, founded by the late Bob Miner, co-founder of Oracle. You certainly have heard of this organically farmed vineyard and winery's neighbors: Dalla Valle, Peter Michael's Au Paradis vineyard, and Phelps' Backus Vineyard. Further downslope, on the valley floor, you'll find luminaries like Screaming Eagle and Rudd. This crossroads of the Silverado Trail is a special corner of the valley, with perfectly-draining red volcanic soils and lots of southwest-facing hillside vines. The dynamic winemaking team of friends Anne Vawter and Jennifer Rue produces less than 1,000 cases a year from the finest blocks of this 75-acre vineyard, with the rest sold off as fruit.
