2014 Alta Mora Other Red Sicily Etna
Pinot lovers, lend us your ears. Meet your new infatuation: Nerello Mascalese. Native to Etna, this grape is the love child we imagine would result if Pinot Noir and Nebbiolo have a little too much to drink one night and get shoved into a closet by their friends. The room starts to smell like strawberry pulp. Violets emerge too, not to mention sweet pipe tobacco, cherries, and thyme.
In 2013, a unique opportunity to buy three contrade or districts on Mount Etna in Sicily presented itself to brothers Diego and Alberto Cusumano. With the help of their Father Francesco, they began creating wines that express the quality and character of the unique land around Europe’s largest volcano, Mount Etna.
