This is world class Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon folks. With a handful of years of aging on it, this beauty is drinking perfectly! With grapes sourced from a handful of vineyards in Oakville, Rutherford and Calistoga, the combination of various microclimates impart bold fruit intensity, with layers of complexity. The wine opens with aromas of blackberry, blueberry and a touch of mocha. Dark fruit characteristics follow on the palate, balanced with fresh acidity and lush tannin. Classic!
Neither a cake, nor a bread. The winery got its start when Jack Cakebread took an unassuming trip to wine country to photograph the area for a book. Within a few days, Cakebread Winery was already taking shape. It’s been a wild ride over the last forty years for the valley pioneers. Visitors to the winery with an interest in wine as a part of healthy living are on the upswing. While times are ‘a changing,’ the winery’s premise remains unshakable; to produce memorable, food friendly wines that speak of their distinctive terroir. Visitors to the Rutherford estate experience the wine, and if they are lucky, a glimpse of Dolores Cakebread’s famed gardens. This is where the good life was imagined, and here it’s eagerly shared.
The generic Napa Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and the rest Merlot and Petit Verdot, aged in about new French oak. The wine is deep ruby, round and juicy with plenty of blackcurrant fruit, licorice and cherries. It is medium-bodied, soft, round and ideal for drinking over the next years.
