2014 Colgin "IX Estate" Syrah Napa Valley

$349.00

Colgin Syrah is, quite simply, in a rarefied class of American wines, and one of the best Syrahs in the world.
Parker says this vintage "has this incredibly fragrant, flowery bouquet that makes it seem as if there were some Viognier co-fermented with it, but it’s always 100% Syrah coming from their steep vineyards. Oodles of honeysuckle, blackberry, black cherry, graphite and some exotic white fruits seem present in this full-bodied, lush, savory, sexy and intense wine that is irresistible in 2014."

Anne Colgin and her husband Joe Wender have created an iconic wine estate high on Pritchard Hill. Surrounded by the likes of Chappellet, Bryant Family, Continuum, David Arthur and Ovid, this zone has been called “The Rodeo Drive” of the Napa Valley for good reason – its thin, rocky soils produce opulent, long-lived wines and far more than their share of 100-point wines than any other area in the valley. And indeed, Anne and Joe’s “IX” Vineyard has produced 5 “perfect” wines over the last 10 years. “At a certain point, a cult becomes a classic, and if Harlan seems more and more like the Mouton of Napa Valley, Colgin might reasonably be compared with Margaux.” – Jay McInerney, The Wall Street Journal

Lastly, the 2014 Syrah IX Estate has this incredibly fragrant, flowery bouquet that makes it seem as if there were some Viognier co-fermented with it, but it’s always 100% Syrah coming from their steep vineyards. Oodles of honeysuckle, blackberry, black cherry, graphite and some exotic white fruits seem present in this full-bodied, lush, savory, sexy and intense wine that is irresistible in 2014, and for that reason, destined to be drunk in its first 10-15 years, although I suspect it could last longer.
