It's a dark, pure expression of Tannat with an emphasis on blackcurrant and blueberry fruit, woodsmoke, and baking spices, with oodles more fruit and softness than its counterparts in France's Madiran zone.
When Alejandro Bulgheroni and his wife, Bettina, discovered Garzón in 1999, they saw in it their "little Uruguayan Tuscany." Their family dream has come true today. They've created a new agricultural paradise dedicated to growing outstanding wines of character while keeping sustainability front and center. As of the 2014 harvest Bodega Garzón was crowned the first sustainable winery built outside North America in accordance with the stringent requirements set down by the United States Green Building Council (USGBC). LEED Certification (Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design) is a rating system developed by the USGBC which consists of a set of rules regarding strategic plans aimed at ensuring building sustainability.
Bodega Garzón and her ample vineyards are situated near the Punta del Este along Uruguay's east coast. At a mere 11 miles from the Atlantic Ocean the Estate's 1,000 small vineyard blocks - each with varying micro-climates, soil composition and exposure - are something uniquely special.
