We’ve long admired the wines of Maison Bleue, launched in 2007 by former dental surgeon Jon Meuret. The wines have immaculate purity and freshness, and Jon shows a very deft hand with Rhône cultivars, his first love. This wine, the “Coureur des Bois,” or “wood-runner,” is a blend of three different vineyards: Les Collines in a cool corner of Walla Walla, Olsen in Yakima, and Waliser, the first vineyard ever planted in “The Rocks” AVA, an exciting Châteauneuf-du-Pape lookalike south of Walla Walla.

It’s an interesting blend of Syrah, Mourvèdre, and Cabernet Sauvignon that will prove versatile at the table. Wine Enthusiast rated this 93 points and said “Its savory herb, black currant, bramble, smoked meat, white pepper, orange peel and plum aromas pop. The palate is supple, elegant and balanced. A lengthy finish caps off the experience.” PTL and pass the skirt steak.
