The Meyer family name is one of the most highly revered names in the Napa Valley. Justin Meyer, AKA “Mr. Cabernet” and Silver Oak Cellars cofounder, had the Valley smitten when he was growing grapes and producing wines at the Christian Brothers Monastery and Silver Oak Cellars from the 70’s to the 90’s. Justin and his wife Bonny left Silver Oak in the late 90’s to start their new passion project Meyer Family Cellars with their son, Matt Meyer. Matt follows in his father’s footsteps and continues to produce a small production, Oakville appellate wine from the infamous Bonny’s Vineyard. We absolutely flipped for the Le Bon Bon and have a feeling you will as well. The 2014 has aromas of nutmeg, cedar, pipe tobacco and touch of caramel. The wine enters the palate with ripe fruit, great acidity and a velvet mouthfeel that lingers. Pour yourself a full glass and enjoy!
Having grown up in and around the cellar at Silver Oak, Matt Meyer seemed destined to continue his late father Justin's winemaking vision. After selling their share of the famed Napa winery to their longtime partners, Matt decided to chart his own course in Mendocino's Yorkville Highlands with a focus on Syrah and Port. But as tends to happen with the constant tinkering at small wineries, Matt, along with winemaking help from his Aussie wife Karen and mother Bonny, expanded the lineup to include a few more mainstream offerings, several of which we've selected for your consideration here. Matt is well aware of the legacy he's a part of, and has every intention of keeping the torch lit and held high in the cellar.
