Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon delivers notes of ripe blackberries, black cherries and garrigue with hints of Provence herbs and cigar box. The medium-bodied palate offers cassis in the mouth with good core fruit, firm, grainy tannnins and good length. This is textbook Napa Cab, done well. - Robert Parker
David Ramey is one of the true aces of winemaking in California. While he had an established track record at Matanzas Creek, Chalk Hill and Dominus, we first got to know him well during his stint at Oakville’s Rudd Estate, where he helped take the project into the stratosphere with his work in the vineyard and cellar. In 1996, he and his wife Carla launched Ramey Wine Cellars, which has since become phenomenally successful on the strength of David’s rare winemaking skill. Ramey is a classicist and a Burgundian at heart; his wines are pure, frank, and unmanipulated. The Chardonnays go straight from the press to the barrel, and undergo malolactic fermentation and lees-stirring in barrel. The quality here is first-rate, and will appeal to lovers of great French wines.
The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley is classic Ramey Cabernet all the way. Blackberries, currants, scorched earth, and charcoal aromatics, medium to full body, great elegance, and notable concentration all make for a top notch 2014 that can be drunk today or cellared for 10-15 years. The blend is 80% Cabernet Sauvignon, 11% Merlot, 6% Malbec, and 3% Petit Verdot, and it’s made in decent enough quantities that it should be easy to find.
The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is just as appealing today as it was last year. Supple, open-knit and expressive, the 2014 will drink well with minimal cellaring. Floral and savory notes add an attractive upper register in this mid-weight, juicy 2014. Bright red stone fruit, plum and savory notes abound on the finish. This is a gorgeous Napa Valley Cabernet from David Ramey that shows just how appealing 2014 can be.
Plenty of currant and berry character follows through to a full body, round tannins and a juicy finish. Dry and delicious. Lovely balance and drinkability to this. Drink now.
Medium to deep garnet-purple in color, the 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon gives up notions of cassis, warm plums and cedar chest with touches of tobacco, dried herbs and underbrush. The palate is medium to full-bodied with plenty of ripe, juicy black fruits and savory accents framed by grainy tannins and background freshness, finishing on an earthy note.
