After tasting this lineup, we’re confident in telling you that Coach can still call a helluva game. It helps that he hired superstar Thomas Rivers Brown to be his consulting winemaker. And it also helps to have the Frediani family as partners; these old family iends and business partners of the Vermeils have some of the oldest and greatest vineyards in Calistoga. This ripe and full-throttle Cab hails from the “Rosedale” block of the Frediani vineyard in Calistoga, and is very hard to find outside of Vermeil’s tasting room and, of course, Bounty Hunter!
Just because Dick Vermeil has a Super Bowl ring doesn’t mean he carpet-bagged his way into Napa Valley. Quite the contrary. The legendary coach [Philadelphia Eagles, St. Louis Rams and Kansas City Chiefs] grew up in Calistoga with the offspring of some of Napa’s oldest farming families. One of his first coaching gigs was at the Napa Valley Community College. He’s been in the Valley his whole life, with a Napa winemaking legacy dating back to his grandfather. So after achieving an impressive measure of success in the NFL, he decided to return to his roots and call on some of his old friends for fruit. As a longtime collector and connoisseur, it was a natural extension of both his hobby and personal history, and Vermeil Wines was born.
