2015 Black Kite Pinot Noir Anderson Valley

Kite’s Rest Vineyard is a family-owned 40 acre parcel in Anderson Valley’s western end, called the “Deep End”. It is about 10 miles from the Pacific Ocean. Here the Green and Birdsall family’s Pinot Noir vines start from the Navarro River and rise up 400 feet to meet groves of coast redwoods, some of the tallest and oldest trees on earth, which happen to love the same habitat as Pinot Noir. In this already cool area, their vineyard’s north-facing exposure gives them greater hang time that is normal in Anderson Valley. As a result, their Pinot Noir grapes ripen slowly and evenly, yielding generous and complex fruit flavors as well as acid balance.

From the winery: “Kite's Rest Pinot Noir is the wine that our estate hillside vineyard in Anderson Valley was designed to produce. It is a blend of three different clones (Dijon 114 and 115 and Pommard) from the three distinct vineyard blocks (Redwoods' Edge, Stony Terrace and River Turn) in the vineyard. This wine offers a wonderful balance between the elegance and aromatics of the Redwoods' Edge block with the richness and length of the Pommard clone from the Stony Terrace and River Turn blocks. We produce approximately 900 cases annually.”
