This wine will be of interest to those of us who love the taste of the Mediterranean sun in our red wine: the toasted herbs and dusty black fruit that can only come from ancient vines roasting away on a forlorn Spanish plain.
Volver's "Tarima" is 100% Monastrell (AKA Mourvèdre) from 36-43 year old vines, imbued with succulent, earthy black fruit tones. It's the kind of wine we're referring to when we describe a "crowd-pleaser." These wines are known to vaporize in a flash at cookouts, parties, or even in a weeknight instant when your back is momentarily turned to your spouse. It's also fine "cellar insurance": the wine to keep readily accessible for the waning hours of the evening, instead of opening something too expensive for fatigued palates.
"Another terrific value is the 2015 Tarima from Alicante. This wine has terrific aromatics, broad, expansive flavors, about 15% natural alcohol and an expansive, heady mouthfeel. This is rich, dense and Provençal in its flavor components. Totally aged in used oak and stainless steel, the wine is a real sleeper and big-time winner in the values sweepstakes."
This easygoing red is a multi-case buy if we ever saw one! Why not stockpile a little sunshine for the fall?
"[Bodegas Volver] is one of the top value wineries in all of Spain…They produce an amazing amount of inexpensive, high-quality wine that sells for a song." – The Wine Advocate
