Today we salute the stalwarts, those who clung to old ways while modernity encroached.

Fourth-generation farmer Tom Del Barba cultivates a small section of 130-year-old, own-rooted Zinfandel in the town of Oakley, which has steadily grown up around his family farm. (see Image) His purely sandy soil allows the vines to send taproots all the way down to the water table, sometimes 7 meters or more below the surface. Despite Oakley’s intense heat, the vines get no irrigation; the vines get all the water they need on their own. A wine of incredible intensity and concentration is the result of these ancient vines, a wine we’re offering you today.

Dylan’s Ghost is a Napa Valley brand inspired by terroir, iconic vineyards, and later the artistic dark poetry of the Welshman Dylan Thomas. Aaron Pott, who honed his craft at Chateau Troplong Mondot, Chateau La Tour Figeac, and the likes of Quintessa, made this old vine blend, brimming with deep boysenberry, dried red cherries, and baking spices. It’s a fabulous value, especially at wholesale pricing! Prisoner fans, why not put a case on the truck?
