“The Maiden” is made from the softer, more forward barrels of the famed Harlan Estate, but when they’re starting with such exquisitely fine fruit, how do they even choose? Wine Advocate describes it like “The 2015 The Maiden (bottled in early 2018) is deep garnet-purple colored with lovely notes of warm redcurrants, black raspberries and wild blueberries with touches of rose hip tea, tobacco, spice box and fragrant earth. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated with lovely grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and earthy.” Harlan fans, this great vintage will be such a fine addition to your cellar!

When it comes to wine pioneers credited with building Napa Valley's reputation as a producer of ultra luxury Cabernets, Bill Harlan may be second only to Robert Mondavi. In 1984, the then Northern California real estate developer and founder of Meadowood Resort and Spa made it his mission to produce the greatest red wine in California, a Napa Valley Grand Cru. After purchasing 240 acres in Oakville and planting 40 with Bordeaux grapes, Harlan teamed up two of the world's greatest winemakers, California's Bob Levy and Bordeaux' Michel Rolland, aka The Flying Winemaker.

There were very small yields in this vintage—about 50% of normal production. The 2015 The Maiden (bottled in early 2018) is deep garnet-purple colored with lovely notes of warm redcurrants, black raspberries and wild blueberries with touches of rose hip tea, tobacco, spice box and fragrant earth. The palate is full-bodied and concentrated with lovely grainy tannins and seamless freshness, finishing long and earthy.

This has a solid, grippy edge from the start, with cast iron and warm stone accents guiding the core of steeped black currant and blackberry paste flavors along. Nice sage, sassafras and tobacco details fill in on the finish. Built for the cellar.
