2015 Morgado 'Rita's Crown' Pinot Noir Santa Rita Hills

We’re proud to offer you the first Pinot we’ve ever tasted that was made by a full-time firefighter. Each fall, when she’s not walking vineyards or dragging hoses between tanks of Pinot Noir, Kimberly Hatcher is riding a fire truck down the streets of San Francisco, and lugging hoses to extinguish fires. Hatcher’s winery, Morgado Cellars, is named for her grandmother, Mary Morgado, her role model of pride and fortitude. Kimberly also had the good fortune to learn winemaking from the gifted Russell Bevan, and she makes her wines in a similarly ripe, uncompromising style.

Today’s temptation is a KNOCKOUT Pinot from the justly famous, 201-acre Rita’s Crown Vineyard, which is contiguous to the acclaimed Sea Smoke Estate Vineyard, and in fact, Sea Smoke purchased the vineyard in 2016. Top vineyard-designate wines have been made here by Babcock, Ken Brown and Sandhi, not to mention Kimberly’s mentor and friend, Russell Bevan. This wine is so spicy and opulent, and packed with fresh and dried cherry fruit, we absolutely couldn’t resist it.
