At 1400 ft above sea level, miles from civilization, Rockpile Vineyard may be the ideal terroir for this varietal. 'The Convict’ is named for the labor used to carve the road running through the property back in 1870, but there’s nothing guilty about this pleasure. Rich and silky with lots of soft tannins, this exemplifies mountain fruit.
Dusty and structured, this is a graceful version of the grape, herbal and brimming in bay leaf and black pepper. Tightly wound and firm in tannin, it shows a wealth of balanced black currant and cherry with well-integrated oak.
