Family ownership, commitment to quality, and a personal approach to selling and encouraging memorable experiences. The Staglin Family Vineyards motto. That is was has driven Garen and Shari Staglin every day since 1985 when they planted their vineyards in the absolute heart of Rutherford. The property itself was originally planted in the 1860s and has been producing grapes ever since.
Having known the Staglin Family over the past 20 years, we know that their other driving philosophy is to make the wines they want to drink. They like big, rich wines so they, and winemaker Frederik Johansson, make big wines. Winemaking isn’t their only passion though, the Staglin family has been absolutely vigilant in working with foundations, scientists and universities around the world for the advancement in brain research and brain health research. As such, proceeds from the sale of each bottle of Salus wine support brain health research.
The 2015 is driven with red and black fruit with complexity and intriguing layers of earth and herbs. There’s a touch of concentration with bursting fruit, fine granulated tannin and texture. It finishes with a touch of espresso, cocoa nibs and hazelnut butter.
This is a great wine for a great cause.
