WA92+The Stags Leap name originated in the late 1880s with the Stags’ Leap Winery founding Chase family, it is attributed to a native Wappo legend of a stag leaping to escape hunters. The mountains behind the property on came to be known as the Stags Leap Palisades.
Stags’ Leap is a place of natural beauty, storied buildings and gardens, a lively history, and a reputation for elegant wines showing finesse and intensity. Winemaker Christophe Paubert has an impressive background with positions at Chateau d’Yquem and Gruaud-Larose as well as projects in Chile, Spain and Washington State adding to his experience. He makes wine the way he learned in France, to showcase the fruit and not the winemaker’s hand.
“Very deep garnet-purple in color, it reveals freshly crushed black and red currants, black cherries and unsmoked cigars with hints of violets, chocolate box and cedar. Full-bodied and packed with vibrant black fruit layers, it has a firm, very fine-grained frame and finishes long and spicy.”-WA92+
