This is a lovely, balanced wine with a silky texture and a rare example of cool, coastal climate Tempranillo. Generous in both fruit and earth, this intricate beauty takes a little time to open. Aromas of smoky plum and violets greet you on the nose with a sumptuous palate of blackberry pie, black pepper, mahogany, and concentrated mocha. A long and complex finish leaves you with the lingering taste of underripe cherry.
Smoke-accented cherry, dark berries and a touch of vanilla on the perfumed nose. Sappy and nicely focused on the palate, offering bitter cherry and black currant flavors underscored by a dusty mineral element. Becomes fleshier and sweeter on the persistent finish, which features harmonious tannins and a faint suggestion of smoked meat. This is quite a successful New World take on this variety.WA90
The realistically priced 2015 Tempranillo Sawyer Lindquist Vineyard was my favorite of these red releases from Verdad Wine Cellars, wafting from the glass with a classic bouquet of dried red berries, dill, herbs and earthy forest floor. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied, chewy and bright, with crisp acids and a crunchy core of fruit. Decidedly savory and old-world in style, this should make for attractive drinking over the next 5-10 years.
