Las Piedras, which means “tiny pebbles”, was the first vineyard planted in the St. Helena appellation. You could say Beckstoffer has a love affair with these vines. This has balanced nose with blackberry jam, cherry compote and notes of vanillin oak. On the palate it has a velvety entrance that evolves with accents of black fruit, Mirabelle plums, honey and milk chocolate. This one’s got both power and grace. You win!
From a site not far from Dr. Crane, the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Las Piedras is denser and more opulent than the Dr. Crane Vineyard, with some high-toned notes of cassis and blueberry fruits intermixed with lavender, violets, flowery incense, and a vibrant sense of minerality. Full-bodied, upfront, and flamboyant, drink it over the coming 15 years.
