AP Vin is an artisan producer of California Pinot Noir, an urban winery headquartered in the Mission District of San Francisco. It was founded in 2003 by Andrew Vingiello and his wife Brenda, beginning with just 6 barrels of Gary’s Vineyard Pinot Noir from the Santa Lucia Highlands. An early collaboration with Pinot Specialist Brian Loring of Loring Wine Co introduced Andrew to vineyard owners with highly acclaimed properties growing world-class grapes. Such as the following one!
Owned by Fred Schrader and Thomas Brown and, until recently, managed perfectly by the late Ulises Valdez, the Ridgetop Vineyard is located within a few miles of the Pacific Ocean in the town of Annapolis, at 1100 feet above sea level. We were struck by this wine’s genuinely Burgundian aroma, one that reminded us very much of a great Chambertin Clos de Beze from the town of Gevrey-Chambertin.
The Pinot Noir Ridgetop Vineyard is a more classic effort and has lots of forest floor and hints of herbs as well as a solid core of darker red fruits. This site is owned by Fred Schrader and Thomas Brown and is just a few miles from the Pacific Ocean. Aged in new French oak, it's medium-bodied, fresh and lively on the palate, with good acidity and a clean, lengthy finish.
