We chose just one barrel from this top-class Premier Cru in Meursault, and it blooms from the glass with notes of hazelnuts and drawn butter, apricots and orange blossoms. This is the perfect “gateway” white Burgundy for California Chardonnay lovers, any day of the week! Gorgeous stuff.
There’s a distinct concentration of expertise with white Burgundy in the Boyer-Martenot family. The modern era of the Domaine dates back to the 1940s, when Lucie Boyer handed the Mersault estate down to her son Andre. He married a woman from the neighboring Puligny-Montrachet neighborhood, also known for its rich Chardonnay-based wines. Their son Yves married the daughter of a winemaker in Meursault. As the Domaine enters its fourth generation, Vincent Boyer is managing the estate in his parents footsteps, along with a few innovations. In the past decade, they’ve acquired 1er cru vineyards including Les Perrieres in Mersault and Le Cailleret in Puligny-Montrachet.
