2016 Cardwell Hill Cellars Fenders Blue Pinot Noir Willamette Valley

Seductive. Alluring. Perfumed. Exotic. Sweet-fruited. Succulent. Pinot Noir, you inhabit our souls, in the glimmering little alcove right next to Cabernet. We have a saying in our trade: wherever you begin your wine journey, all roads eventually lead to Pinot Noir.

Tonight we have just the thing, the kind of Pinot that seems to drink itself when you turn your back on the bottle, a $20 that is like a starter pistol for the inevitable “spousal relay” to finish the jug.

Cardwell Hill is a little mom n’ pop winery in Philomath, towards the southern end of Oregon’s Willamette Valley, and their “Fender’s Blue” Pinot honors the endangered native butterfly that calls their vineyard home.

This Pinot is supple and succulent, full of cranberry and red cherry flavors flowing in a fleshy, low-acid format. Get a case—and this fall, pair this beauty with a garlicky roast chicken with plenty of focaccia to sop up the juices. We call that living bountifully.
