By now you may know how great the 2016 vintage is in Châteauneuf-du-Pape. And you may have already ripped through your case of the unreasonably fruity Domaine Font du Vent Côtes-du-Rhône we offered back in early November. We have another treat to propose from the Gonnet family: their textbook, plush, pitch-perfect Châteauneuf-du-Pape. It’s from a great vintage, ancient 50-100+ year old vines, and is remarkably drinkable.

“I tasted a number of lots that will go into the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape, including a Grenache out of vat that included nearly 10% white varieties. This was ripe and pure, with lovely fruit and spice. A Syrah from 800-liter new oak was rich, velvety and warm, while a blend of Grenache and Counoise was more pomegranate-like and tart but with silky tannins.” – The Wine Advocate

I tasted a number of lots that will go into the 2016 Chateauneuf du Pape, including a Grenache out of vat that included nearly 10% white varieties. This was ripe and pure, with lovely fruit and spice. A Syrah from 800-liter new oak was rich, velvety and warm, while a blend of Grenache and Counoise was more pomegranate-like and tart but with silky tannins. A prospective blend Gonnet prepared was creamy and lush, with no obvious oak and just a slight bit of warmth on the lengthy finish
