Jeb Dunnuck is RAVING over this masterpiece of Cabernet “I love this valley floor site, and the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Janzen Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Vineyard is a brilliant wine on all accounts! Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, its deep ruby/purple color is followed by a vibrant bouquet of blackberries, blueberries, spring flowers, licorice, and graphite, with loads of smoke tobacco and cigar notes developing with time in the glass. Full-bodied and concentrated, it stays fresh and lively on the palate, with terrific balance between its fruit, acidity, and tannins”. The Wine Advocate loved the “warm plums and cassis with touches of sautéed herbs and underbrush, plus a waft of cigar boxes”, smells and tastes like Cabernet Heaven! This release can go toe to toe with the top wines of the Valley and equal their greatness at nearly a quarter of the price. This is a serious cellar selection and comes with the Bounty Hunter’s highest recommendation. Only 210 cases made, so act fast on this release.

Claus Janzen doesn't shy away from taking the road less traveled. He originally made his mark on the local wine scene with the wholly unique "Bacio Divino," arguably Napa's most successful Tuscan-inspired red. When he moved that project into the world of Cabernet, he did so with the philosophy that it would be the vineyards rather than the blend that would drive the program's success. So, like many other notable Cabernet producers, Claus turned to vine guru Andy Beckstoffer for fruit, and the rest as they say, is history. With the help of lauded winemaker Kirk Venge, he has created a range of Napa Cabernets with completely unique personalities, and the critics have taken note. He's even dialed in a sensational Pinot Noir from a serious vineyard down south. Some of our favorite wines year in and year out, you'd be wise to pay attention to this lauded producer.

Wine Advocate

A barrel sample, the 2016 Janzen Beckstoffer Missouri Hopper Cabernet Sauvignon has a very deep purple-black color and is scented of crushed black cherries, warm plums and cassis with touches of sautéed herbs and underbrush, plus a waft of cigar boxes. Medium to full-bodied, it has a very firm backbone of very finely grained tannins and a wonderfully earthy character complemented by loads of tightly coiled fruit, finishing with great length and depth.

It’s a structured wine that needs 4-5 years of bottle age, but it’s loaded with potential and should evolve for 2-3 decades.
