Martin Ray is the name of both a man and a winery. He was a pioneer, dedicated to crafting single varietal, region specific wine from 1943 through 1972 in Saratoga, in the heart of the Santa Cruz Mountains. After learning winemaking from Paul Masson, he developed Mount Eden, today one of the most important producers in the Santa Cruz Mountain AVA.
Though today the winery is based in the Russian River Valley, Martin Ray still produces Cabernet Sauvignon from Santa Cruz Mountain vineyards, Sonoma Valley and Napa Valley. The Synthesis is their flagship Cabernet that is a blend of Napa Valley mountain and valley floor fruit. This blend of vineyards does wonders for the balance and structure of this fine nectar. Suckling notes, “pretty and solid cab with currant, cedar and walnut aromas and flavors…silky tannic and delicious finish.” This should be a staple in everyone’s cellar as a stalwart Napa wine and killer producer who keeps performing every vintage.
A very pretty and solid cab with currant, cedar and walnut aromas and flavors. Medium to full body, firm and silky tannins and a delicious finish. Drink or hold.
