Co-founder of Silver Oak, Justin Meyer, was once kicked out of a bar in Napa for forcefully removing a patron for harassing a young woman, only to find out later that patron was actually the bar owner! After the incident, friends nicknamed him “Spitfire” for his unwavering spirit to act on his morals no matter what the scenario. This 2015 Cabernet, lives up to the moniker with an in-your-face wallop of blackberries, plums, and cherries with firm tannin and a supple, yet balanced finish of elegance and grace. Join us in raising a glass to those who stand up for what is right…especially when that is a great bottle of Oakville cabernet for less than $50.
Having grown up in and around the cellar at Silver Oak, Matt Meyer seemed destined to continue his late father Justin's winemaking vision. After selling their share of the famed Napa winery to their longtime partners, Matt decided to chart his own course in Mendocino's Yorkville Highlands with a focus on Syrah and Port. But as tends to happen with the constant tinkering at small wineries, Matt, along with winemaking help from his Aussie wife Karen and mother Bonny, expanded the lineup to include a few more mainstream offerings, several of which we've selected for your consideration here. Matt is well aware of the legacy he's a part of, and has every intention of keeping the torch lit and held high in the cellar.
