Corley Reserve showcases the strength of the family’s five Cabernet Sauvignon vineyards. Each sub-appellation, Rutherford, Yountville, St. Helena and Oak Knoll, lend unique character and nuance to this rich and complex wine. Expressive aromas of black and blue fruit, cassis and mocha lead into a richly textured, balanced Cabernet with robust tannins and a long, lingering finish. Excellent after decanting, a few years in the bottle will bring it even closer to perfection
With 360 years of family history as farmers from Virginia, Jay Corley and his family set out to stake a claim in the growing California wine industry in the late 60’s. They found a plot of land in the Oak Knoll district which was suitable for both warm and cool climate varietals. Today, the second generation is starting to take full stride. All three of Jay’s sons oversee the business and are proudly carrying the torch from their father’s legacy. Son Chris Corley makes the wines.
The 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve is the most finessed of these wines from Corley. Dark cherry, plum, lavender, mint and spice are nicely layered throughout. I especially admire the wine's energy, persistence and overall definition. This is very nicely done.
