2016 Orrin-Sage Pinot Noir Sonoma County

Sage Wightman IV started his love affair with wine by perusing wine lists back in his home state of Missouri at a young age, constantly being ridiculed by his family, as they were Kentucky martini folk. A college friend who had a catering operation got him even more excited about wines, and lo, his first job out of college was working as a salesman for Gallo in Southern California. He flew up to Napa for the first time in the late 80s and fell in love with it. Before he knew it, he was buying a vineyard in 1995 at the base of Howell Mountain. He made Cabernet Sauvignon for 10 years and later sold the property. After a short hiatus back home in Missouri partnering in a wine distribution company, Sage came back to Napa Valley and the Orrin-Sage brand was created.

The winemaker here is Justin Harmon, who apprenticed with the great Russell Bevan from 2007 through 2009. Justin, who also makes wine for Argot, Pfendler and Belden Barns.
