2017 Chateau de Beaucastel Chateauneuf du Pape Blanc

(Net Item - no discounts apply)

Produced from 10 to 50-year old "youngster" vines, the pairing possibilities are almost endless for this truly grand white. If you require the very best in California Chardonnay and White Burgundy, this wine also needs to be in your cellar repertoire. It's a game-changer, the kind of nectar The Wine Spectator called "A gorgeously rendered hedonists' delight, with creamed melon, peach, apricot and quince flavors that glide along, supported by subtle ginger, hazelnut and piecrust notes. The long, lush finish has fruit for days."

A leader in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape appellation for over a hundred years, Château de Beaucastel is easily one of the ten most treasured wineries in France. The Perrin family has shepherded their 110 acres of vines in the north of the appellation towards greatness since 1909, and have farmed organically since the 1960s. Their ancient Roussanne vines are an enviable asset that they exploit perfectly, and their Mourvèdre-heavy red Châteauneuf ages better than almost anything in the zone.

The 2017 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc is another brilliant white from this team that hasn’t put a foot wrong in the past decade or more. Buttered citrus, honeysuckle, flower oil, and white flowers all flow to this rich, beautifully layered, fresh and vibrant white that’s impeccably balanced. Scheduled to be bottled shortly after my visit, it’s unquestionably another great vintage for this wine
