The rolling hills of Durell Vineyard seem to be a sweet spot for Chardonnay. Add in a little French oak for an indulgently rich texture and you’ve got a classic expression that’s bound to make some loyal fans. Baked apples, sun-kissed apricots and marzipan nuance are kept in balance by lemon peel, sage and crushed rocks. As Vinous puts it, “In a word: Terrific.”
The 2017 Chardonnay Durell Vineyard from Chateau St. Jean is pure class. A wine of precision and delineation, the Durell has a feeling of dimension that really distinguishes it in this range. Lemon peel, almond, sage, dried flowers and crushed rocks give the Durell a very pretty savory character. In a word: terrific.
