2017 Crossroads by Rudd Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Oakville

$79.95

This amazing bottle came out of a vintage that was remarkable for all the wrong reasons! Rain, hail, heat, and then fire? Holy smokes. Despite the chaos, Rudd Estate astounds with a Cabernet Sauvignon rich with aromatics of black cherry, currant and spice on a bed of graphite, violet and licorice. The polished balance of fruit and acidity draw out into a lingering, velvet finish. Proof that you can’t make a diamond without pressure.

Vinous

The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon is fruity, supple and easygoing, all of which make it an excellent choice for drinking now and over the next few years. Ripe red cherry, tobacco, cedar, plum, espresso and sweet spice all flesh out in this nuanced, inviting Cabernet.

Wine Spectator

This offers a bright burst of plum and blackberry puree flavors, which extend nicely, picking up light savory, anise and mineral notes along the way. A brambly edge emerges on the finish.

This is the first re-launching of this “Crossroads” label, so that now all Rudd’s viable fruit is being used by the estate. Composed of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon, 9% Cabernet Franc, 1% Petit Verdot and 5% Malbec, 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Crossroads by Rudd was aged for 22 months in French oak, 46% new. Deep purple-black in color, it comes bounding out of the glass with a sit-up-and-beg nose of crushed black cherries, warm plums and crème de cassis plus touches of chocolate mint, tilled soil and black tea. Medium-bodied, the palate has great freshness and a pleasant hint of chew supporting the taut black fruits, finishing earthy.
