Fisher is back with another excellent vintage of their ‘Lamb Vineyard’ wine. Showing the dark side of Calistoga with ripe black cherry, spice, licorice and scorched earth, there is a complex melange of flavor to behold here. Always a high-scoring marvel, this wine is an evergreen favorite around here. We simply cannot get enough of this!
The Fisher family has the sort of vineyards that will cause a winemaker’s pulse to quicken – a vitally important advantage in a game where the conversation starts (and ends) with raw materials. From their gorgeous estate property on the Sonoma side of the Mayacamas range, to their Lamb vineyard in Calistoga, they have some magical land at their disposal. Winemaker Whitney Fisher and her team are farming these plots to exacting standards, and the results are some of the best wines in the Valley! You owe it to yourself to mix up a case of these fabulous wines.
The 2017 Cabernet Sauvignon Lamb Vineyard is a dark, brooding wine that shows the more muscular, virile side of Calistoga. Ripe black cherry, spice, lavender, licorice, scorched earth and menthol all add nuance to this rich, powerful Cabernet Sauvignon. A brooding, dark wine, the 2017 is going to need time to come together. This is such a gorgeous wine, but readers will have to be patient. The 2017 is a deep, explosive wine of great character and pedigree that needs time to be at its very best, even if it is incredibly impressive today.
