2017 was a blissfully cooler year for McLaren Vale, leading to excellent fruit character in the Shiraz. This is an elegant, balanced wine with a bouquet of crushed flowers leading into round blackberry and pepper notes in a lithe frame of spicy, ultrafine tannins. This has all the ingredients for a long and beautiful life, so don’t be afraid to stock up and enjoy one or two a year for the next two decades.
Thanks in part to the relatively cool year, this is a wine that manages refinement, restraint and beautiful expression of place. The nose is a neatly woven basket of aromas: crushed flowers, red and blue fruit, pepper, mint and cigar box. The palate is full figured and highly textural.
