2017 Hill Estate 'Red Door' Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

The 2017 Red Door is all about purity and finesse. Winemaker Alison Doran builds a wine of incredible depth and complexity by tapping into the strengths of specific vineyards and adding in small lots of Syrah and Malbec. Ample blue fruits find leafy herbs and notes of damp earth in the aromas and flavors. Fine, polished tannins frame the finish. After 16 months in 65% new French oak, this is a wine that will keep for another 15-20 years, but is so approachable now.

Winegrowing isn't always easy, but it sure can be rewarding. Doug Hill must think so as he's been at it for the past 40 years and farms nearly 700 acres across the Napa Valley (his family owns about 100 of those). With so much acreage at his fingertips he's got an insider's edge as to which areas shine and how to cull out the very best characteristics from each site. He wasn't content to just grow for others, so Doug and the family decided their family should get into the wine business too. These days, Hill Family Estate is the culmination of Doug's vision - a way to share his love of the valley, of farming and of wine with his children and wine lovers everywhere. What can we say? Not only are the Hills living the dream, but they're helping us to do the same… straight from the heart of the Napa Valley, in the American foodie Capital better known as Yountville, California.
